An old woman was baking one day, and she made some gingerbread.She had some dough left over,一天有一位了老太婆在烤面包，她做了一些姜饼，还剩下一些面团。so she made the shape of a little man. She made eyes for him, anose and a smiling mouth all of currants, and placed more currantsdown his front to look like buttons. She opened it and to her surprise out jumped the littlegingerbread man she had made. She chased after him into the garden where her husband wasdigging. He put down

"Stop!" called out the horse, "Id like to eatyou." But the gingerbread man called out:老牛在老夫妇后面跟着跑起来，很快他们越过一匹马。“别跑了，”马喊道，“我想要吃你。”但是小姜饼人大声喊道："Ive run from an old woman
And an old man,
And a cow!
Run, run, as fast as you can,

Theyall looked up as they saw the gingerbread man, and as he passedthem he called out:小姜饼人继续跑着，老夫妇俩、牛和马在后面跟着。有一群人在割晒牧草。他们都抬起头来看着他。小姜饼人跑过他们，喊道：
"Ive run from an old woman,
And from an old man,
And a cow and a horse.

You cant catch me, Im the gingerbread man!"“我跑过一个老太婆， 一个老头，一头和一匹马。跑啊，跑啊，快点跑。你们抓不到我，我是小姜饼人。”The haymakers joined in the chase behind the old woman and the oldman, the cow and the horse, and they all followed,him as he ranthrough the fields. There he met a fox, so he called out to thefox:割晒牧草的人也跟着追赶起来。他们跟着小姜饼人跑过田野。在那儿他遇到一只狐狸。他向着狐狸大声喊道：
"Run, run, as fast as you can,
You cant catch me, Im the gingerbread man!"跑啊，跑啊，快点跑。你抓不到我，我是小姜饼人。”But the sly fox said, "Why should I bother to catch you?" althoughhe thought to himself, "That gingerbread man would be good toeat."“但是狡猾的狐狸说道：“我为什么要自找麻烦呢，我不想抓你。”但是他心里想到：“小姜饼人一定很好吃。”Just after he had run past the fox the gingerbread man had to stopbecause he came to a wide, deep, swift flowing river.小姜饼人从狐狸的身边跑过，前面是一条 又宽、又深、流得又快的河。小姜饼人不得不停下来。The fox saw the old woman and the old man, the cow, the horse andthe haymakers all chasing the gingerbread man so he said,狐狸看到大家都在追赶小姜饼人，于是他说道："Jump on my back, and Ill take you across the river!" Thegingerbread man jumped on the foxs back and the fox began toswim.“跳到我的背上来，我带你过河。”小姜饼人跳上狐狸的脊背，狐狸开始游泳。As they reached the middle of the river, where the water was deep,the fox said,当他们游到河的中间时，在河水很深的地方，狐狸说道：
"Can you stand on my head, Gingerbread Man, or you will getwet." So the gingerbread man pulled himself up and stood on thefoxs head.“你能站在我的头上吗。小姜饼人。要不然你会湿的。”于是小姜饼人爬到狐狸的头顶。As the current flowed more swiftly, the fox said,水流更急了，狐狸说道：
"Can you move on to my nose, Gingerbread Man, so that I cancarry you more safely? I would not like you to drown." Thegingerbread man slid on to the foxs nose. But when they reachedthe bank of the river, the fox suddenly went snap! The gingerbreadman disappeared into the foxs mouth, and was never seen again.
“你能挪到我的鼻子上来吗？小姜饼人，那样我能更加安全地驮着你？我可不想让你淹死 。”小姜饼人滑到狐狸的鼻子上，但是当他们游到河对岸时，狐狸突然咬了他一口。小姜饼人消失在狐狸的嘴里，就再也看不到他了。
